Why We Built ZeroKVault

Because losing someone is hard enough. Figuring out their digital life shouldn’t be.

The Story

About two years ago, an acquaintance of mine passed away suddenly. Beyond the grief — which was overwhelming on its own — came something I didn’t expect: a painful treasure hunt. Tracking down his accounts, passwords, digital assets, crypto wallets, important documents… all scattered across the internet with no paper trail.

It took weeks. Some things we never found. The experience was exhausting for everyone involved, and it made something very clear to me: our lives are increasingly digital, and when we’re gone, that digital life doesn’t leave a trace.

I immediately set up a process for my own family — a spreadsheet, some shared notes, instructions in a safe. It worked, but it was cumbersome. Worse, it generated a security concern. How do I ensure those things stayed secured? And it meant giving up some privacy.

Then I started talking to friends and colleagues — executives, entrepreneurs, people who’ve moved around the world. The problem was everywhere. Everyone had some version of the same story: “I should organize this, but I haven’t.” Or: “I tried, but it’s a mess.” Or the worst: “We lost access to everything when my father passed.”

That’s when I decided to build ZeroKVault. A vault where you store your most sensitive digital information — encrypted so that not even we can see it — and it gets delivered to the people you choose, only when they need it. No treasure hunts. No lost assets. No privacy trade-offs.

This is personal for me. And our team is committed to making sure nobody has to go through what his family went through.
